From the Desk of Fishing Rebels Charters

Target Zones: Banderas Bay, El Morro, La Corbetena, & El Banco

Our Promise: We Catch Fish Or We Don't Go Home!

Are you planning a trip to Mexico and wondering when to book your charter? In Puerto Vallarta, the ocean changes with the seasons. Depending on the month you step aboard a Fishing Rebels boat, you could be wrestling a monster Marlin in the deep blue or pulling up record-breaking Red Snappers from the reefs.

To help you plan the ultimate angling adventure, here is our breakdown of what is biting in PV all year long!

☀️ Summer (June – August): The Offshore Reef Explosion

This is when the water temperatures rise, the baitfish flood the bay, and the action gets fast and furious. Summer is famous for incredible weather, warm blue water, and heavy-hitting reef fish.

  • Top Targets: Trophy Red Snapper (Huachinango), Mahi-Mahi, Sailfish, and the arrival of Yellowfin Tuna.

  • The Hotspot: El Morro. The unique rock structures here act like a magnet for massive predators during the summer months.

📸 Recent Captain's Log Highlight:Just look at what we've been pulling up lately! Captain Jose took our guests out to the rock structures at El Morro and helped our young angler boat this absolute beast of a Red Snapper. 🍁 Fall (September – November): Peak Trophy Monster Season

If your dream is to hook a bucket-list fish that requires serious muscle, heavy tackle, and a camera crew, this is your window. Fall brings the absolute biggest trophy fish of the year into Puerto Vallarta's waters.

  • Top Targets: Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, and massive, cow-sized Yellowfin Tuna (often clearing 200–300+ lbs).

  • The Hotspot: Deep offshore runs out to La Corbetena and El Banco.

❄️ Winter (December – February): Non-Stop Action & Perfect Weather

Winter in Puerto Vallarta brings gorgeous, cool weather on land and beautifully calm, highly active waters in the bay. This is the absolute best time of year for family trips, half-day charters, and incredible eating fish.

  • Top Targets: Roosterfish (with their iconic mohawk fins), Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, Spanish Mackerel, and Jack Crevalle.

  • The Hotspot: Inshore structures and throughout the Banderas Bay.

🌱 Spring (March – May): The Light-Tackle Frenzy

Spring is a fantastic transition season. The cooler water currents bring in massive schools of smaller baitfish, making it a dream playground for high-speed, light-tackle fishing that keeps the rods bent all day long.

  • Top Targets: Large Amberjacks, hard-fighting Grouper, Roosterfish, and Sierra Mackerel.

  • The Hotspot: Marietas Islands and local bay reefs.
